Version 1.0. Effective 12 September 2026.
Roughwork is a service of Relato Labs, Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”), a corporation organized under the laws of the State of Delaware, with its principal place of business at 2261 Market Street, 10209, San Francisco, CA 94114.
Roughwork is a math tutor for iPad. You write your work by hand; the app marks it, tells you where it went wrong, and keeps track of what you have and have not yet mastered. This policy describes what the app and the roughwork.app website (together, the “Service”) collect, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It describes what the Service does today.
When you sign in. Roughwork uses Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us an account identifier for you, and an email address only if you choose to share one. We do not ask for or store a password — there isn’t one.
Your handwriting. When you ask Roughwork to check a page, the image of that page is sent for marking and a copy is kept so a disputed mark can be looked into. Those images are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Your practice history. For each question you attempt we record what you attempted, when, whether it was right, and what the marker said about it. We keep this for as long as you have an account, because it is what your progress is calculated from — delete it and the app no longer knows what you have learned.
A profile photo, if you choose to add one. Kept until you remove it or delete your account.
How the app is used. We record product events — screens opened, sets started and finished, and similar — to understand whether the app works. After you sign in these events are associated with your account, not held anonymously.
If you ask to be told when Roughwork opens. The website has a form for that, and it stores three things: the email address you type, the date you typed it, and the country your connection came from — the country only, nothing more precise. We do not store your IP address, your browser, or any fingerprint. We keep it until you ask us to remove it: email team@relato.com and it is gone.
To mark your work and show you the result; to work out what to give you next and when to bring something back for review; to let you sign in on your iPad and keep your work yours; to look into a mark you think is wrong; and to understand whether the app is working. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Only the providers who operate the Service for us:
Beyond that, we may share information to comply with legal process; to investigate or prevent fraud, security issues, or threats to anyone’s safety; without restriction when it is aggregated or anonymised; or in connection with a significant corporate event such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, including due diligence for one.
You can delete your account from inside the app, under your name in the top right. It asks you to confirm, and then it removes your written work from that iPad and, from our servers, your saved pages, your practice history, your profile photo, your account and your sign-in. It cannot be undone.
If you would rather ask us, or you want a copy of what we hold, email team@relato.com.
Submitted page images expire after 14 days. Everything else is kept while your account exists and is removed when you delete it. We take security seriously, but no measure eliminates all risk and we cannot promise ours will.
Roughwork teaches school mathematics, so we expect younger people to use it. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email team@relato.com and we will delete it.
We ordinarily process your personal data to provide a service you asked for, or on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and improving it. You have the right to access, correct, update or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict our processing of it, and — where we rely on consent — to withdraw that consent at any time. Deleting your account inside the app exercises the deletion right immediately; for anything else, email team@relato.com. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, and we would ask that you contact us first so we can try to put it right.
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, the information described above may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live.
When the Service changes, this page changes with it. We will post the updated policy here with a new effective date, and where a change concerns a new kind of information we will make the update before the collection starts, not after.
